Ferrari is off to one of its worst season starts in recent memory, and with the pressure mounting, the team is reportedly considering bringing a new floor to the upcoming Bahrain Grand Prix. However, there appears to be internal disagreement over whether the upgrade should debut this weekend.
Despite team principal Frédéric Vasseur playing down concerns about Ferrari’s early-season form, sources suggest that urgent improvements are being discussed behind the scenes. According to reports from Formula Uno in Italy, Ferrari’s SF-25 has been plagued by issues with balance and overall performance — leading to the development of a revised floor aimed at increasing stability and efficiency.
Mixed Results Continue in Japan
Ferrari’s struggles persisted at Suzuka. While Charles Leclerc salvaged P4, he finished almost 14 seconds adrift of Oscar Piastri in third. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, had another quiet race, trailing in seventh as the Mercedes duo disappeared up the road.
So far, Hamilton’s sprint victory in China remains the team’s best result of 2025.
Aero Team Wants It Now – Vasseur Prefers Caution
The proposed new floor is designed to improve aerodynamic consistency, expand the car’s working window, and generate more efficient downforce. But it’s unclear whether the upgrade will be ready in time — or even allowed to run — in Bahrain.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ferrari’s aerodynamics department is keen to introduce the upgrade immediately. However, both Vasseur and technical director Loïc Serra are reportedly urging patience, preferring to first resolve baseline setup issues before layering on a major aero change.
The team’s leadership believes that waiting could help them better evaluate the floor’s true impact — instead of risking inconclusive or misleading data from an already unsettled car.
Decision Expected by Thursday
If Ferrari opts to bring the new floor to Bahrain, Friday’s free practice sessions could serve as a back-to-back comparison test between the old and new spec — crucial for gathering correlation data before qualifying.
Either way, the coming weekend will be pivotal for Ferrari, as the Scuderia looks to turn around its shaky start to the 2025 season.
